Simon Cowell has lined up a $2.2million deal for the glamorous Geordie to be a judge on the American X Factor.

And he has already insisted to Fox executives: “She’s our girl!”

Simon has held meetings with Fox chairman Peter Rice and President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly where he’s said that the Girls Aloud singer is his first choice. He told them: “I took more of a gamble taking Piers Morgan to the States. Cheryl will be loved immediately. We’ve got to nail her.”

The TV and music mogul has already spoken in the US about how successful 26-year-old Cheryl could be in America.

He said: “She’d be great over here – Cheryl’s a star.”

But this is the first time Cowell, 50, has moved to tie her down to a deal to be a judge on the show, which starts in 2011. He fears she may get booked up.

Sources tell us Cowell has held several meetings and conference calls with Fox executives over recent weeks. And in the last two he has discussed who he wants to bring on board the judging panel.

Our source says: “Getting the right combination for the panel is imperative and Cheryl ticks all the boxes.

“She is sassy, sexy, confident and knows her stuff musically. Her profile may not be large Stateside yet, but Simon thinks that will work to his advantage as there’s an element of mystery about Cheryl which is lacking from so many US stars. The money on offer is huge, but he knows it has to be a lot to persuade her to uproot, albeit temporarily.”

The offer may come at the perfect moment for Cheryl, who has been left shell-shocked by reports of her estranged husband Ashley’s cheating.

John Terry breathalysed and questioned by police after 'running over' club steward after Chelsea match

John Terry was questioned by police and breathalysed after he accidentally ran over a Chelsea club steward following his Champions League match at Stamford Bridge last night.

The star was trying to drive through a melee of photographers and press at around 11pm after his team had crashed out of Europe at the hands of Inter Milan.

The spotlight was on the star as his betrayed wife Toni Poole was in the passenger seat, having turned up to watch her husband play after forgiving him for his affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of Terry's former best friend Wayne Bridge.

Unbeknown to Terry, as he inched through the crowd in his Range Rover, he trapped the man's leg underneath the wheel of his 4x4, leaving him writhing on the floor in agony.

Terry was unaware of the incident at the time and drove home to Oxshott, Surrey, without stopping.

He was breathalysed by officers from Surrey Police several hours later and was found to be within the legal alcohol limit.

The club official, who has been trying to move the scrum of fans and photgraphers, was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken by ambulance to the nearbt Chelsea and Westminster hospital for treatment.

However, the Chelsea captain was later informed of the accident and phoned the as yet unnamed injured man to apologise and enquire about his welfare.

A spokesperson for Terry said: "We can confirm there was an unfortunate accident as John Terry left Stamford Bridge last night.

"When driving out of the stadium at approximately 1-2mph in a queue of traffic exiting the ground, his car was surrounded by photographers and fans.

"In the melee that ensued a member of Chelsea's security staff was knocked to the ground, making contact with the car. He suffered a badly bruised leg.

"John was aware at the time that there was a lot of contact with his car during the incident, but not that anyone was injured as a result.

"Upon hearing of the injury, John spoke to the police. He has also been in contact with the staff member to check on his welfare." A Metropolitan Police spokesman said:

"Police were called at 11.13pm to Stamford Bridge, Fulham Road, to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

"A 35-year-old man suffering a broken leg was taken by ambulance to a west London hospital where he is in a stable condition.

"The 4x4 car did not stop at the scene. Inquiries into the incident continue."

Inter Milan recorded a 1-0 win with a Samuel Eto'o goal, giving them a 3-1 aggregate win after the first leg in Italy.

And Hugh said that though he can't speak Mandarin, he has to sing a Chinese country and western song in the movie - before giving an impromptu rendition on the show and dragging an unsuspecting audience member out of the crowd to dance with him into the bargain.

Hugh also revealed that he'd still watched the Oscars, despite being given the year off from hosting them.

He told Jay: "Yeah I watched, I loved it! I always watch the Oscars. I sat there in my sweats with my bowtie on that I wore last year, and I was swanning around the house, organising the betting pool, thinking, I have a feel for this kind of thing, I know how it's going to go. And I lost absolutely everything."

Hugh however heaped praise on this year's hosts, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

He said: "Steve and Alec were brilliant. Last year, Steve gave me advice, and once I was on Saturday Night Live when Alec was and Alec gave me advice, so it was great seeing them do it this year."

The worlds of real-life chat shows and soaps are colliding when Coronation Street's most dysfunctional family the Platts go on a bizarre episode of the Jeremey Kyle Show.

The Platt family - played by actors Ben Price, Jack P Shepherd, Michelle Keegan - will have it out in character on the 1,000th episode of the rowdy talk show.

Weatherfields's Graeme Proctor, played by Craig Gazey, will provide contributions from the audience.

In keeping with a typical Jeremy Kyle episode, David Platt (Shepherd) demands a lie detector to see if Tina McIntyre (Keegan) and his big brother Nick Platt (Ben) have been sleeping together.

Craig said they hadn't rehearsed beforehand, adding: "We're going to do it exactly how people do it. My character is quite funny and may come out with silly things but we're not doing it for a laugh. We want it to be as if the characters were on Jeremy Kyle."

Michelle admitted she was nervous ahead of her appearance, adding: "I like Jeremy Kyle. I always watch it, so it's a bit weird to be one minute watching it and the next on the show."

The episode airs tomorrow (Thursday March 18) on ITV1 at 9.25am.

The UK premiere of The Blind Side has been scrapped after its Oscar-winning star Sandra Bullock pulled out of the event.

Organisers said the Hollywood star, who scooped the best actress Academy Award last week, is no longer able to travel to the UK for the glitzy bash.

The premiere had been due to take place next Tuesday at the Odeon West End in London. Bullock was scheduled to attend with her co-star, newcomer Quinton Aaron.

The movie is based on the true story of Michael Oher and his journey from virtual homelessness to becoming one of American football's biggest stars.

Bullock won the gong for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy, a well-heeled mother who takes Michael under her wing.

Organisers said Warner Bros had taken the decision to cancel a planned press conference as well as the premiere.

A Warner Bros spokeswoman said "unforeseen circumstances" had arisen and no further information was being given.

Organisers are still screening the film on Tuesday evening in Leicester Square and guests will still be able to use their tickets.
